Nicknamed Timmy and began playing at age 10 in his birthplace of Yuanlin where he stayed throughout his youth to improve his tennis skills. Says, "I was just a kid who liked to play sport very much." Credits his long-time coach, Hsiao-Yung Chang, who has been with him since he was a kid and always pushed him to practiceharder and to motivate him Enjoyed an outstanding junior career, ranking a career-high No. 5 in 2017, and won 3 Grand Slam junior doubles titles with 3 different partners: Australian Open w/Zhao, Wimbledon w/Geller and US Open w/Yibing Wu. Says, "This had a huge impact on mycareer."
